Life isn’t all champagne, chocolates and cheese. But for skiers and luxury lovers, it can be. You can enjoy champagne wishes and raclette dreams galore – and so much more – at Utah’s luxury Deer Valley Resort in Park City. I’ve schussed and hiked a few luxury ski resorts in my time, but the incredible slope-side food and drink options at Deer Valley Resort were a revelation.

The Resort is still family-owned, with managers who’ve worked their up the ranks and know each employee by name. In a Park City now dominated by Vail Resort ownership (as is Whistler, British Columbia), this is impressive. Here’s how to toast the luxe life on the slopes of Deer Valley Resort.

Après Lounge & Beach Club at Montage Deer Valley

When burning thighs can take no more after tackling a hundred-and-one runs across seven mountains, it’s time to hit the Après Lounge & Beach Club at Montage Deer Valley.

French champagne house Veuve Clicquot custom-designed the Après Lounge yurt. The Lounge is stocked with plenty of chilled Verve Clicquot Rich, the brand’s newest champagne innovation. Guests can order gourmet nibblies, and enjoy cosy seating near fireplaces. We enjoyed goblets of bubb while lounging on comfortable chalet chic furniture.

The renowned mountain lifestyle home decor brand Gorsuch supplied the luxe furnishings. Their store is located on Main St. in Park City and various US mountain resort towns. Confession: Returning to the slopes after a champagne-fueled pitstop requires serious effort and willpower. The Après Lounge is the perfect spot for some adult-only, mid-afternoon champagne pick-me-ups. Bonus, if you’re staying at the Montage Deer Valley, you’re pretty much already home.

Fireside Dining at Luxury Deer Valley Resort

It was the smell of melting raclette cheese that undid me. Large, half-moon wheels of golden cheese are set against one of five wood-burning fireplaces in the dining room. Warmed by the fire, the raclette melts slowly into a yellow pool of ambrosia on my plate. A quick trip to add necessary accompaniments – potatoes, sliced meats, pickled onions and cornichons – and then it’s pure cheese heaven.

It’s rare for me to be rendered tearful and speechless by a dining experience. If you love cheese, Alpine fare and fire-roasted leg of lamb, Fireside Dining will be worthy of your joyful tears as well.

Located at Empire Canyon Lodge, Fireside Dining features a taste of the European Alps over four courses served by the lodge’s five stone fireplaces. Enjoy warm Swiss raclette cheese, cured meats, salads, specialty entrees, vegetarian choices, fire-roasted leg of lamb, and dessert fondues.

Pace yourself, there are five fireplaces to visit, not including the dessert buffett. If you love raclette as much as I do, you’ll basically hang out over at ‘cheese heaven fireplace’ (my words) all night long. Remember to pair that melted ambrosia with alcohol or hot tea. Do not drink cold water or pop, it has a negative effect on your body’s absorption of all that cheese. Trust me, I’m Swiss.

Post-dining, snuggle under blankets for a horse-drawn sleigh ride outside the Lodge. It is truly the perfect ending to a idyllic day of skiing and fireside dining at the top-drawer luxury Deer Valley Resort.

That chamagne yurt is right up my alley!! I’m used to drinking a cold beer after a day on the slopes, but think I could make an exception in this case 😉

  • Jenna says:

Oh my goodness, that raclette cheese sounds amazing! I’ve always wanted to try it, and the fireside dining sounds like a perfect place to give it a go. Love the idea of having diner next to the fire like that. We went on a horse-drawn sleigh ride at Deer Valley Resort last year, but didn’t stay overnight there. Would love to stay longer next time–such a cool spot!

  • Nat Deduck says:

Wow! This kind of place is pretty unique! Seems like you had a great time!

  • Nancy says:

Forget the skiing, I want that 4 course dinner! I can see myself now sitting on that fur lined sofa enjoying the meal of a lifetime!

  • Annie says:

Is that furry thing and bed or a couch?? Either way, I want to be on it, reading a book and getting cozy. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Julie says:

In my mind there is no more perfect winter food than raclette. I was able to partake once this winter and I swear, it makes me think of snowstorms and skiing every single time. The idea of a whole ‘cheese heaven fireplace’ might be too much temptation for me…or not 🙂

  • I was hoping to get to Deer Valley this winter, but alas it was not meant to be. That fireside dining experience is exquisite in its own right, but after a day of carving the slopes, I’m not sure how it could get any better. That raclette and the fireside coziness look divine!

    • Claudia says:

It was all over the top and fabulous in every way. And I haven’t even described the fantastic skiing to be had at Deer Valley!

  • Chrysoula says:

What an incredible resort. I relly like that it is family owned but what really blew me away was the food. I am a cheese lover and this is paradise for me.

  • Mansoureh says:

Oh my God. This place looks like my dream. What a cool way to melt cheese. I would love to try it. I am jealous now 🙂

  • Robin says:

I would learn to ski just to go to the Veuve Cliquot hut. Pinch me.

    • Claudia says:

Well, the good news is that you can just walk over from your suite at the Montage Deer Valley. 😉

  • This place looks super cosy! I would really love to stay here one day. I think I may have gone to cheese heaven from this post. YUM!

  • Allison says:

The Fireside experience looks amazing! I’ll have to try it. Good thing Deer Valley is close to my home.

  • Victoria says:

What beautiful details of luxury! we are used to much simpler apres-ski treatments here in New England resorts but Deer Valley sounds and looks amazing!

  • Oh I really like that cheese thing! I think i could just stay there and eat as soon as it melts!
