Suffering from post-vacay, summertime sadness? Me too. I’m always in mourning after returning from a great trip. Luckily, I have just the solution – plan another holiday with our Lonely Planet Book giveaway!
There’s no better way to lift up spirits than researching and planning another vacation. It’s been proven that anticipation creates happiness – researching and reading about your trip destination or itinerary creates excitement and positive expectations of a great holiday. There’s no better way to prepare than with one of Lonely Planet’s new travel guidebooks, such as Great Escapes, or the Big Trip. These fantastic books will help you fantasize and spur you to plan your next family vacation.
Great Summer Travel Planning Tips from Lonely Planet Books
In addition to the two mentioned, there’s How to Survive Anything (a big hit with my boys), and Travel with Children. How to choose between these great titles?! Let me help.
The well-curated destination guide of Great Escapes may introduce activities and destinations that you hadn’t thought of before. Fancy an architectural tour in Chicago? Belgian beer odyssey? (check!) Or channeling your inner James Bond in Jamaica? The book’s tag line of enjoy the world at your leisure couldn’t be more apropos. I want to visit every single place in this book. The photography is stunning.
My eldest was big on The Big Trip. It’s the perfect book for anyone planning a gap year, first backpacking adventure or round-the-world escape. He’s finishing high school this year, so the advice and inspiration in the Big Trip was perfect and timely. Great tips and practical information on everything from how to plan being away for six months, to keeping in touch, and being a respectful traveller. As a parent, I love this guidebook.
More Great Reads from Lonely Planet Books
The How to Survive Anything: a visual guide to laughing in the face of adversity was a HUGE hit with both our kids on our recent three-week road trip in western US and Canada. The kids read chapters aloud of how to survive any mess, such as snakebites, earthquakes, all-you-can-eat buffets, and even a toddler’s tantrum. The author, Ed Stafford, is an extreme travel survivor with a Guinness World Record for walking across the Amazon, and other amazing feats to his name. It’s a really fun and informative read.
Finally, Travel with Children is a parent-author guide of great advice and tips for the how, where, when, what and why to travel with kids. This book would be the perfect gift for any new or expectant parent, especially those who may feel that their travelling days are done. No way, baby! The fun’s just beginning.
The Fine Print: This Lonely Planet Books Giveaway is only open to Canadian residents (sorry American friends!). The winner will be chosen at random by Random.org.
