Zippin' in Whistler

Seb zip

There's nothing like overcoming your fear of heights by suspending yourself from a metal clamp attached to what seems like a thin metal cable 200 feet over rushing Fitzsimmons Creek in Whistler B.C.

But how about subjecting your beloved offspring to such an experience?

Now that we've done it, I can only say - go for it! Our 9 and 11 year olds astounded us with their courage and overcoming their own fear of letting go, literally. It was only afterwards that I reflected on what exactly we'd done and how crazy it was that I'd allowed my own children - my babies! - to zip away from me, 200 ft up in the trees, along a 1000 feet cable at 50 km/hr. Thoughts of 'bad mom' filled my head, but their happiness and sense of accomplishment on having done this feat eased my mind.

Ziptrek Tours offers you the opportunity to face your own mortality over the course of a 3 hour tour in stunning old growth rain forest and steep cliffs overlooking the creek that runs between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

If adventure is in your travel plans this summer, feel the fear and give ziplining a try.

[travellingmom tip: Minimum age for ziplining is 6 years old. Children under 65 lbs will have to 'zip' in tandem with a guide on some of the ziplines.]
